Stoke-on-Trent is home to a few game stores, and none are better than The Game Zone in Tunstall, one of the six towns of Stoke-on-Trent.
Ran by the very affable Mark, it is as pure a game store as you will find. There are zero Pop Figures here!
Here’s an updated review video of The Game Zone from June 2024:
While there are newer games for the PS5 etc, you will often hear Mark moan that no one buys them anyway!
The shop specialises in 16-bit, with lots of Sega Mega Drive and SNES games, but there is certainly enough PS1, PS2, Gamecube, and other titles available.
Console wise, the shop can be hit or miss. Sometimes I will go in, and there are 15+ 16-bit consoles in, and some days, just a few.
Even though the shop is medium-sized, there are a lot of things hidden away in nooks and crannies, so keep your eyes open for things on top, or at the back of cabinets.
I often take a trip to TGZ, and have bought quite a bit of stuff from there. I’ve easily spent a few thousand here over the years, and I have enjoyed spending every penny.
Worth Driving for Retro?
Absolutely! The shop is 80% retro, with the rest comprising of Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series S/X, and Playstation 5 stuff.
Retro Fixes and Repairs
The shop has recently opened a console repair service, which is just one more reason to travel to the shop.
You can find The Game Zone at 278 High St, Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent ST6 5TY.
